Himawari Farm Co., Ltd. is a fattening farm located in Takagi-cho, Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture, and produces Kuroge Wagyu beef. With approximately 2,000 animals, it is one of the largest in Miyazaki Prefecture. In July 2021, we joined the Ranch Group, which is the production division of a management group centered on major meat companies that produce, distribute, and sell meat on a global scale, and aim to enrich ourselves as a management entity and promote sales expansion in Japan and overseas. I am.
We are reorganizing our organization, streamlining our operations, and improving our welfare and working environment. We are working to break away from the image of livestock farming in which the 3Ks (Harsh, Dirty, and Dangerous) are taken for granted. Through production, we aim to be a farm that is kind to people, cows, and the environment, and that fulfills its social responsibility.
It is located in the Ishiyama district of Takagi-cho, Miyakonojo City, 9 km from Miyakonojo Interchange towards Miyazaki, east of Takachihomine in the Kirishima Mountains. National Route 10 passes nearby, making it a convenient location for transportation, but once you step into the farm, you will find yourself at the foot of a mountain surrounded by nature, with clean air and a quiet environment. A stepped terrace has been constructed on the south slope of a small hill at an altitude of 240m, and the open cowshed with a high eaves, 5.4m in height, is spaciously placed here and has good sunlight and ventilation, creating a comfortable environment for the cows. Offers.
In addition, the drinking water used on the farm comes from a deep well next to the pasture, which is 70 meters underground and draws groundwater from the Higashidake water system. Annual water quality tests show that the water meets drinking water quality standards. We call this natural water ``Ishiyama Dake Water'', likening it to the ``Kirishima Dake Water'' that gushes out from the Miyakonojo Basin.
Disposal of excrement is the most important issue for livestock farms. It has a large environmental impact on the region, and incorrect methods can have a negative impact on soil, water quality, and the atmosphere. We have a large-scale compost processing and manufacturing facility with a floor space of 5,700 square meters to process cow waste into useful mature compost. We ensure a natural fermentation temperature of 80℃ or higher through turning and blowing air, and no coliform bacteria is detected in food inspections. In addition, annual component analysis results show that the fruit has maintained a sufficient level of ripeness.
The finished products are sold in-house, as well as over-the-counter at major home centers and local JA stores. Fully matured compost sold under product names such as ``Sunflower Farm Organic'' and ``Nanohana'' is light and easy to handle, and is popular among consumers as ``compost that can be loaded into cars and taken home.''
In addition, food residues such as tea leaf scraps and vegetable scraps that are discharged in the region during compost fermentation are mixed in, and the products are returned to the fields after fermentation. We have obtained an "industrial waste processing permit" for this business, and are playing a part in local recycling-oriented agriculture.
Furthermore, in collaboration with other seed livestock farmers in the region, we have started a project to produce mixed compost containing pig manure and chicken manure, and to expand sales channels across the country. This initiative was certified as a ``manufacturing and wide-area sales business of bagged mixed compost'' under the country's Sixth Industrialization and Local Production for Local Consumption Act ``Certified Comprehensive Business Plan.'' The commercialized mixed compost ``Hanamizuki'' is sold in both bulk and bagged formats, helping upland farmers who are looking to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.
The produced compost is packed in bags and shipped to home centers, etc. nationwide.
